because school mattersThank you to the 60+ volunteers including about a dozen children for making our 8th annual event such a success. In just over an hour 375 backpacks were given away along with slices of pizza, Cheryl's Cookies, bottled water, fresh peaches and hand sanitizer. The morning drive through went so fast! The participants were so appreciative. We felt sorry we had to turn cars away with disappointed parents and students. Diane then posted on Facebook about the big 2022 Ready to Go Back to School Family Resource Fair with Columbus City Schools on August 20 plus printed copies to hand out to clients the next week. Tammy: "Thank you to everyone. Everyone was absolutely wonderful and amazing. It was God's gift to the community. It was a blessing to be serving the Lord with our sisters and brothers in Christ. Thank you so much. Words cannot express by gratitude." Comments from some of our volunteers: Absolutely wonderful day! The preparation that went into the event must have been overwhelming at times, but our God saw it through and showed up in a mighty way! To serve our brothers and sisters in need. So much need. We work together as a team. Thanks! (I need a nap. lol) It is always a blessing to serve with you. God is in control. We are His children. So many smiles and happy faces today. thank you! This summer we would like to express our sincere thanks for your generosity and continued support of our mission to improve the lives of people affected by poverty. We couldn't do our important work without the dedication of caring people like you. During the month of August we served 505 clients at our Oakland Park Help Center! Your kindness is helping our clients remember God's faithful promise in Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Thanks to you, so many who are dismayed and struggling with fear are finding courage--and hope in Christ. If it wasn't for generous supporters like you, this couldn't happen. Thank you for making so much possible. We're deeply grateful for you. A CARGO VAN FOR GHHC!! Imagine our delight when Karen Kemp of the UALC Mission Committee called last week to say that UALC and the Mission Committee had approved the purchase of a cargo van for GHHC! What an amazing answer to our prayers and a true blessing!! Tammy and I started talking and praying about the huge need for a cargo van 2 years ago!! And God has answered our prayers through UALC and the Mission Committee! Bob Masheter, a friend and long-time supporter of GHHC, started looking for a cargo van for us. There was a very limited supply, but he found one that he thought would suit our needs! His company, Dick Masheter Ford, provided a service checkup and routine maintenance to be sure it was safe and ready for us! Tammy has had to use her personal SUV for several trips every week to pick up and delivery hygiene products and bags! Often, we needed to make several trips to pick up all of the hygiene products from the stores. We just needed to borrow a van for Because School Matters from Dr. CeCe Harris and the City of Columbus. Tammy, our staff and board members give our heartfelt THANKS to UALC, Jonathan Nasby, Bob Masheter, Dave Mann, Karen Kemp, and the Mission Committee for this incredible gift!! It will be put to good use! God is SO good all of the time!! loofas! loofas! LOOFAS!Our friend Dan Raver, who helped build the warehouse with equipment and shelving from ODW Logistics, called to say that one of their suppliers PPI had an excess amount of loofas and were looking for an organization which could use them. We said YES!! We give out hygiene products to our clients, but we love to add special items that our clients love!! So Dan and the driver Corey arranged to bring 8 pallets of loofas to the warehouse. Two pallets were dropped off at the Oakland Park Help Center and six pallets were brought to the warehouse. We unloaded 130 boxes of loofas which is almost 5000!! What an amazing and special gift for us to add to each hygiene bag!! We love to give dignity and hope through hygiene and special gifts that our clients love. God bless Dan, Corey, ODW, and PPI for giving us the wonderful gift of loofas!! partners with bed brigadeAt 7:45 am on August 25 Dale Cory called Tammy. He had just delivered beds to a a family in Hilliard and they needed more help. The father had walked out with all the furniture. There was a mother, 6 month old twins, 14 year old and 17 year old sisters. Could God's Hygiene please help? Thank you to Pam Diehl who had just donated sets of thick towels a few weeks ago. Our volunteers got busy packing up all the basic cleaning products, hygiene items, diapers, plus school supplies and any extra items we could find. The next day Tammy stopped at two food pantries on the way to deliver the Clean Start Basket to the family along with resources to get help. Dale says they have no transportation and need local support in Hilliard as well as a mentor. 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains-- where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121 volunteersOn Tuesday, August 16 we were happy to welcome Jonathan Nasby, Partnership and Mobilization Pastor at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church to volunteer at our Oakland Park Help Center. He posted on the Mill Run Community Facebook page: This morning I had the pleasure of visiting one of our primary local mission partners, God's Hygiene Help Center. While I was there I ran into a familiar face! Carolyne helps distribute hygiene products during the week and works to keep us safe during services on the Security Team at UALC! I love that I get to see people serving in and outside the church! Want to get involved? serving the homeless
Proverbs 3:27 says, “Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them”(NLT). If, for example, you see someone who is experiencing homelessness, don’t say, “I’ve got to help the homeless someday.” Instead, help right then. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 11:4, “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done”(TLB). There’s never a “perfect” time to do anything. Plus, you’re not even guaranteed tomorrow. In John 9:4 Jesus says, “All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, for there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end” (TLB). Finally, the last time you should move quickly is the most important. You should move quickly when God offers salvation. God has offered you salvation, and today is the day to accept it. When I was a teenager, I had a poster on my bedroom wall that said, “Not to decide is to decide.” When you say, “Not yet,” you’re actually saying no to Christ. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2, “Right now God is ready to welcome you. Today he is ready to save you” (TLB). Pastor Rick Warren's Daily Hope, August 15, 2022
