Deuteronomy 3:24 Amplified Bible new partner: the period pantryOn June 6, Tammy and Diane met with Jill Guinan of The Period Pantry. Tammy shared how embarrassed she felt as a a teen when she had no feminine products and had to use a washcloth. That of course only lasted a short time once she was at school and Tammy ended up cutting the rest of the day and rest of the week. Dignity and school are important. So We are glad to partner with The Period Pantry. Our Oakland Park Help Center will give Jill an estimate of how many and what products we need so we can hand out to our clients. Then we will give the above flyer to clients. The Period Pantry will deliver 30 products per person to the client's home. Isn't that a real blessing! middle schoolers mission projectThank you UALC Middle School students and Kelsey Bacon for volunteering with GHHC today!! h.a.r.p. mission![]() UALC volunteers made a trip to Caldwell in Southeast Ohio to aid HARP (Helping Appalachian Rural People) with two work projects. #1 Team, 5 people, built and repaired the wall in Penny’s trailer (she had lost her home in a fire in May), prepared and painted two rooms, colors of her choice. #2 Team, 6 people, worked on Melinda’s trailer which had been donated to HARP by a lady in a nursing home. This trailer was in need of a lot of TLC as it had been sitting ion a field for 2 years. It was moved to a new location and our team helped with electricity, tearing out carpet, cleaning out all rooms of rodent messes and what previous family had left behind. They also worked on a the trailer extension and built a deck on the back for Melinda. #3 Team, 2 people, visited the local nursing home and delivered 45 Blessing Bags. Thankfully, these were filled with items that had been donated to God’s Hygiene Help Center who graciously shared the love with us. We also visited former clients and gave new and previous clients a Blessing Bag. We also helped Team 2 in emptying and cleaning Melinda’s trailer. Penny and Melinda and the nursing home staff were so appreciative of the work they we did and we may go back to Caldwell in October for another mission project. Your plenty will supply what they need. 2 Corinthians 8:14 Father, please awaken me to the needs of others so I might give of the resources You’ve given me. When I’m in need, help me to trust You to provide through those who also love You. Our Daily Bread, June 22, 2022 clean start baskets![]() In June we created 9 Clean Start Baskets for those starting over. Thank you to Kathryn Farrar and her granddaughters for packing 2 baskets for women in the Kindway program who will receive them in August. Men in the Embark program received 2 baskets in June. Then new clients in the Phoenix recovery program received 5 baskets with towels. We are fortunate to have another wonderful woman who shops for towels to donate for these baskets. In a beautiful email message from Christine Money, Executive Director of Embark: "Celebrating Three EMBARK Graduations" As is tradition, at the last EMBARK community gathering prior to the release of one of our graduates, volunteers, staff, and the inside EMBARK community form a circle and “pray out” the person being released. A staff member at the Marion Correctional Institution (MCI) perfectly captured the moment in the photo below on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the end of the EMBARK Season #10 graduation at MCI. This [day in which God has saved me] is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 Amplified Bible tammy shares with another vbsOn June 27, Tammy and Terry visited with the VBS children at Peace. United Methodist Church in Pickerington. We are honored to have been selected as this year's VBS Mission Partner! Be on the lookout for our bins in the lobby during VBS. On June 30 they returned to Peace Church and Tammy shared her story of growing up poor without needed hygiene items. Tammy would cherish a small bar of soap which could be used to wash her hair, brush her teeth and bathe. She encouraged the students if they see someone dirty, to not bully them or make fun of them, instead give them a hug. They may not have any parents as you do and so in need of basic dignity items. Thank you to Peace Church, Carolyn, Nancy, and all of the wonderful VBS staff for your heart to support GHHC! And a huge thanks to all of the families that donated to us this week!! Afterschool Initiative
bicycleSometimes someone donates us an item we don’t usually stock. This time it was a child’s bicycle and sat in the OPHC for several weeks. Tammy waited for the right little person who God would direct her to who needed that bike. Today was the day. Brooklyn was so happy to have Curtis load the bike into her grandma’s trunk. Your plenty will supply what they need. 2 Corinthians 8:14 from homeless to volunteer![]() On September 12, 2021 Guann Gregory, Mechelle Howard's nephew, was murdered. She said, "Once murder visits, it never leaves. I ask the Almighty God to have mercy on my should and allow me to be His instrument." That led to other gun violence at their rental property, thus they were evicted. Mechelle was homeless for 8 months, living out of her car and couch hopping with her rescue dog Penelope. No shelters would accept owners with pets. Mechelle went to IMPACT which helped her secure permanent housing. After she paid the deposit, first and last months' rent, she had nothing left for hygiene and household items. The resource specialist referred her to God's Hygiene Help Center. When Tammy heard her story, her heart melted and packed Mechelle a Clean Start Basket. Mechelle said, "I felt grateful for the help and thankful to have toiletries and household items to clean and move into a home. I'm humbled by the kind acts and forever changed. I simply want to help. I know how it feels to be judged and discriminated against, to have people laugh at you because they don't know my story or the stories of others seeking help. A kind word or a gentle soul that will help. God's mercy and grace delivered me and Penelope and the kind people that surrounds me are all God's gifts. I've been coming once a month and this help is greatly appreciated. If I can help anyone in their time of need, then I feel blessed to spread the word." We were delightfully surprised when Mechelle arrived at our Oakland Park Help Center at 9:30 am on June 28 to ask to volunteer. Diane and Kathy were happy to give her an application and interview her. Then Peggy and Bonnie gladly trained her in packing orders into hygiene bags. Welcome home Mechelle! The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me; Your [unwavering] lovingkindness, O Lord, endures forever— Do not abandon the works of Your own hands. Psalm 138:8 (Amplified Bible) thank you donors![]() We could not serve those in need of dignity without your regular donations and prayers. This month because of the high temperatures and for the safety of our volunteers, our Oakland Park Help Center closed for 3 days. Still we served 373 clients in June. We reached a new record high of filling hygiene bags for 95 clients in 2 1/2 hours! That is a lot of entering into a computer, packing hygiene into bags and delivering to clients. All done where love wins! Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, Colossians 3:23
