In fact, helping and encouraging others is a way to show love for Him. Hebrews 6:10 says, “[God] will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people.” And no gift from His hand is unimportant: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace” (1 Peter 4:10). from Our Daily Bread, November 9, 2020 pact - operation autumn hopeA large group of Columbus Police officers, along with all of the Community Liaison officers recently participated in a program for a week called Operation Autumn Hope. It was held the end of October 2020 and involved over 60 agencies statewide--the largest operation on trafficking in Ohio. On Zoom on Veterans' Day we joined Deputy Chief Knight along with Officer Zacher and other officers to cover the work recently done and how this will help our area! PACT UNIT Community Response Bureau - Community Impact Section The PACT Unit, through the use of team enforcement action, community engagement, coordination with social services, and other elements of the criminal justice system, will respond to complaints and concerns related to prostitution, liquor, tobacco, gambling and nuisance activities. The PACT Unit focuses on reducing the recruitment of women into prostitution and assist those women already involved in prostitution into leaving. You can contact the PACT unit at PACT@columbuspolice.org or 614-645-8678. Police and Community Together (PACT) is trying to break the cycle of prostitution and addiction so the victim is not back out there the next day. Deputy Chief Jennifer Knight leads the PACT team. Arrest is the 1st step to provide services to the victims to separate them from the traffickers and provide a safe place. Survivors often relate, "The officers saved my life when they took me to jail." The Task Force provided resources, medical triage, debriefed them, helped solve local crime and homicides. The victims talk to counselors in a secure area and show them kindness by providing them with a meal. The victims respond, "This is the nicest thing I have received in months!" Statistics: 177 arrests statewide. Columbus had 80 of them. 100 were rescued. Recovered 77 missing children! In Columbus it involved 3 areas: North and South Linden, West side Sullivant Avenue, and the South Side. Judge Jodi Thomas is excited to take over CATCH Court from Judge Herbert. She heard a survivor share her story with 7 other female victims. The judge was impressed with the care given to the women, even if arrested, on her ride along with an officer. Some of the women make their way to CATCH (Changing Actions to Change Habits) Court, a specialized docket for human trafficking victims. where they can be sent to treatment. Community partners like the Salvation Army are needed and important. A question was asked if they still had John School. Yes, and they learn the impact of their behavior on the community. hygiene help for community centersYou should meet our amazing Inventory Coordinator, Lesley Tate. God's Hygiene is so blessed to have her experience volunteering at our new warehouse. Lesley counts the inventory, orders new stock, picks up boxes of bleach and more at several stores and then delivers to the Oakland Park warehouse. Anybody looking for a flexible volunteer position? Please contact Terry or Lesley to see how you can help pick up ordered products at a store. Most of November Lesley has been busy ordering enough products to stock God's Hygiene at 3 Columbus Community Centers: DOUGLAS COMMUNITY CENTER Center Manager - Manney Clarke, 1250 Windsor Ave. Columbus, OH 43211 (614) 645-7407. BARACK COMMUNITY CENTER Center Manager - Mark Stansbery, 580 Woodrow Ave., Columbus, OH 43207 (614) 645-3610 FAR EAST COMMUNITY CENTER Center Manager - Roger Harper, 1826 Lattimer Dr., Columbus, OH 43227 (614) 645-3159. The need for dignity and basic hygiene is so great and hoping we can continue to help them during this pandemic. If clients or their children are registered for activities at the Center, they may be able to pick up a bag of 4 hygiene items once a month from the Center Manager or his staff. Contact each Center for hours. turkeysThank you to those thoughtful donors who have donated $ or turkeys to GHHC for Thanksgiving. Of course, Tammy always knows the families in need. She was so excited to have won the turkey given away by Cook's IGA on Oakland Park. But right away she gave it to her neighbor Freddie Adkins who has a wife and two young children. When he came to Tammy's door asking for something to eat, she had given them a big jar of peanut butter donated to GHHC, along with a loaf of bread, hot dogs and buns. As we all know, Tammy has such a huge heart and has never learned the word no. Even though 6 different resources were posted on our Facebook page where to pick up a free turkey, Tammy still bought and gave away turkeys to at least 3 families. Surprise visit!! Haugland Learning Center gave turkeys to staff on Friday, November 20. With a few extra and some people choosing to donate, the kids and Kristi got to take 12 turkeys down to God's Hygiene Help Center for them to feed hungry families. Bonus that they got to see one of their favorite people. We love you Miss Tammy! In less than an hour, the turkeys were given away to 3 veterans and families in need in the Linden neighborhood. Tammy sent them to St. Stephen's turkey drive through to get the "fixings". “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

we love our caring police officersWe have the most utmost respect for our Columbus police officers, especially our liaison Officer Alesia Zacher. Late one afternoon Tammy received a phone call from the officer. "Come with me. A "John" has just dumped a "working girl" out of his car on Hudson. She is dying in the arms of her friend. Tammy remembered the abuse and pain of her former life and reached out to "Sarah" age 42 to share her testimony, counsel her and try to convince her that she too can get a better life. Book bags were given to the kids who saw a shooting from their home while they were doing homework. The young person ran, while shot, through their yard and died across the street from their home. The kids saw all of the turmoil, and yelling and screaming, the police outside, taping off the scene, guarding their back yard. Officer Alesia as able to return to the neighborhood to show love and caring to the kids and mother. From donations of Carol Thacker, GHHC also has been able to give to Officer Zacher and Officer Jim Poole: 2 cases of adult diapers, 200 Blessing Bags for the streets, 10 blankets, 20 pairs of gloves, few hats, scarves, some socks, school supplies of 4 backpacks and 8 notebooks. One of our men helping with remodeling upstairs shared today how much it meant to him when an officer helped his son and gave these items to his grandkids. We just wish everyone in Columbus could hear about the caring that our police officers show to members of the community. kits of kindnessODW Logisticswww.odwlogistics.com held a hygiene drive supporting local charities. There is a great need for personal hygiene products in pantries and programs within our communities. Hygiene products are among the most requested items, but are not donated as often as food or household goods. In concert with their customer partners, ODW Logistics; philanthropy team, the Reach Out Rangers, launched an initiative: "Kits of Kindness." They assembled "kits" where several personal hygiene items are placed in a bag, then boxed and delivered to local charitable organizations for individuals and families in need. Their goal was to build at least 2,000 kits, which will be distributed in Central Ohio and Southern California. God's Hygiene was blessed to receive 500 of those Kits of Kindness. Officer Alesia Zacher was the first to receive 20 Kits of Kindness for her wellness checks. Evangelist Priscilla McCullough picked up 20 Kits of Kindness for members of New Hope Global Community Church in Linden. The managers of the community centers which we partner with each picked up 100 Kits of Kindness: Barack, Douglas and Far East Side to distribute to their families during October for Halloween and November for Thanksgiving. The rest of the kits will be distributed from God's Hygiene Help Center on Oakland Park. embark and kindway

It's ok not to understand everything. Calm down. Don't try to work everything out. I will make the right things happen. Tammy, don't worry, you will get heat for the upstairs at the warehouse." That day we got heat!
A woman had reached out crying to Tammy 4 times. She lived in a domestic abuse situation and appealed to Tammy to call the police. Instead Tammy called CHOICES and just handed the phone to the woman. That's another reason Tammy opened up God's Hygiene Help Center--to share resources and hope with others. "I long for you to trust Me enough to be fully yourself with Me. When you are real with Me, I am able to bring out the best in you: the very gifts I have planted in your soul." from Dear Jesus page 60 But the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4 serving at new warehouse and help centerThanks to Redi Quick Signs, a family owned and operated small business, we now have signs out front on Oakland Park and beside our Help Center door. Now it will be easier for people to find our new Help Center and Warehouse to leave donations or pick up needed hygiene and cleaning items. God's Hygiene is filling a real need in the Linden community. The first week our new help center was open we served 50 clients. Nearly every person is a new client. Because of COVID-19, we set up card tables outside so they can complete their order form to choose 6 hygiene or cleaning items. Then a volunteer goes inside the warehouse to fill the order into a new pink GHHC giveaway bag. Clients can also choose a free Christian book and any free community resources including Our Daily Bread. Notice the newly painted white area in the middle photo below. Our fabulous mural artist Debby Campbell is adding another mural of a young boy and girl with soap bubbles. Minerva Behavioral Health is a drug rehab facility on Medina Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. It is a Substance Abuse Residential Rehab Facility and provides treatment to people with drug addiction and other substance abuse problems. They have a 30 day residential program after devoting at Maryhaven, Talbot Hall, etc. The residents of this sober living program discovered GHHC is within walking distance so each day some of their new clients visit us. Two of the ladies and one man have volunteered at the Help Center. Andrea continues as a regular volunteer and Tammy has taken her under her wing to get boxes of food and clothes. On September 27 she was very happy to attend our modern worship service at Mill Run. It's all about Tammy sharing free community resources with the clients so she has driven clients to Salvation Army on Karl Road for their drive through food pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am until noon. Tammy has stood near the Salvation Army to refer some of their clients to God's Hygiene for hygiene and we are telling our clients about the free food box drive through. God's Hygiene is blessed that we have Evangelist Priscilla "Prays on Purpose" McCullough coming to pray with our clients. Some of us cleaned out our bookshelves and now everyone picking up hygiene may choose their own Christian book. We are glad to accept any inkind donations from your home collection. Priscilla now wants to start up our Prayer Gathering/Bible Study on Thursdays 12 - 12:45 pm. We are in need of volunteers to serve once or twice a month either helping stock hygiene or filling client orders. We have a lot of fun serving together. This week we had a new volunteer who wanted to get out of his house. John, who happens to be in a wheelchair scooter, helps set up, waters the flowers and greets the clients. Please let Terry, Lesley Tate or Diane know if you are interested. taking care of our communitya There was an extra shelf upstairs at our warehouse so we let our wonderful police liaison Officer Alesia Zacher take it. She placed it in police substation #5 at 11th and Cleveland Avenues. Tammy stocked it with adult Depends and other basic hygiene items she had at her Howey Road Help Center. Our Officer uses the items when making wellness checks in the community. Would you believe that GHHC helped clothe over 7 children this month--two sets of twins, a newborn and a 2 year old? Tammy's friend Melissa agreed to watch a baby for a short time. Several weeks have now passed and the baby is still with Melissa and then she found out it is her boyfriend's child. Tammy talked to a foster mother who had just received a set of twins and needed clothes. The very next day Sue Zerman came to Tammy's house with lots of donated little mostly new baby outfits. Thanks for listening to God to shop those garage sales. Kids in need seem to flock to Tammy and it hurts her heart to see children barefoot and without clothes. She has given out 25 pairs of flip-flops plus name brand tennis shoes--one pair to a man in exchange for helping in the upstairs at the warehouse and the other pair to a homeless man. Neighbors are falling in love with Tammy and our Blessing Box. Now they are donating boxes of food including fresh produce so on some days, the Blessing Box is overflowing. Paul Nordman wrote about Tammy and God's Hygiene Help Center through his daily blog 3 years ago. A woman just read it and reached out to Paul how to connect with God's Hygiene. Even though the new Help Center was closed for the week, Tammy served the young woman from her Howey Center and also requested a box of food be delivered to her. A couch or dressers are also needed. God is so good! Below are pics of another angel who helps serve at God's Hygiene--Sue Zerman. upstairs at warehouseBefore winter comes, we still need to add insulation in the upstairs "office" at our warehouse. Tammy's only brother Ross had offered to provide the materials and labor to remodel the upstairs. But as a number of you are aware, Ross recently has had 2 surgeries for his heart and repair the mesh in his intestines. Because of COVID our donations have decreased so we need to wait a few months to pay for needed insulation. News Flash! James, who has worked with Ross for years, has offered to remodel the upstairs for free! He began work on September 18. Thank you James! Others have helped put insulation in, hauled stuff away and we are hoping some UALC members may help add the finishing touches. Far East community centerDr. Ce Ce Harris of Columbus Recreation and Parks came to our Because School Matters event and then stayed and volunteered with her children. She saw how the parents appreciated the giveaway, so she decided to plan one for the Far East Community Center. Since the community centers support God's Hygiene where we hope to open up future help centers, GHHC donated some funds for hygiene for their giveaway as well as loaning safety cones and clipboards. On September 22 Terry, Lesley and Diane met with Roger Harper, Manager of the Far East Community Center to discuss opening a new God's Hygiene Help Center in their building located near Walnut Ridge High School. They have a secure closet with shelves behind their front counter where staff will serve clients. Now we need to contact their neighborhood churches and service organizations to see if they can help support a new GHHC. Since we will be serving so many more clients in the near future, our operating budget has also increased even though we buy hygiene at discount prices. It would be such a blessing if you would consider becoming a monthly dignity donor. Please click here www.godshygiene.org/donate.html to set up your automatic donations. Thank you! 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 NIV Cold weather is on the way. We will be starting our annual Project Warm. Thank you that the UALC knitting group already plans to use donated yarn to create scarves and hats. You may bring your donations to the Mill Run worship service on Sunday mornings and give to either Diane, Terry or Lesley Tate. During the week you may bring to our new Help Center/Warehouse located at 1402 Oakland Park Avenue on Tuesday and Thursdays 9:30am - 1pm. We have given out all our regular size Bibles and pocket New Testaments. Clients are so appreciative to receive their own Bible and a Christian book to read. Thank you. SUPER special VOLUNTEERSWe want to recognize 3 of our amazing new volunteers: Terry Trubiano accepted the position as our Gift Card Coordinator. Target and WalMart stores will donate $25-$100 gift cards to God's Hygiene once a month if we send a letter and a volunteer offers to pick it up. If you live close to one of those stores and want to help, please contact her at Ttrubiano@gmail.com
John Willis is our very dependable volunteer at our new Oakland Park Help Center. He arrives at 9:30 am every Tuesday and Thursday to set up the tables, chairs, resource sheets and free Christian books. John retired from the business he started--I Am Good Peanuts. Tammy met him at Dollar General the first week we were open and after he visited as a client, asked if he could volunteer. We so appreciate his dedication and he can really deliver the client orders quickly on his electric scooter. Andrea Yantone was thinking about a young woman named "Rabbit" who once lived in her same apartment building 20-30 years ago. She was walking on Oakland Park and saw that our new God's Hygiene Help Center was open. Andrea and Tammy couldn't believe their eyes when they recognized each other! She also has become a dependable volunteer and helps fill client orders in our warehouse. Andrea previously worked as a cosmetologist which will be great when we offer free haircuts for kids at a future event. We invite you to become one of our super special volunteers. Please complete the simple online application at https://www.godshygiene.org/volunteer.html or ask Terry Starr or Diane. There are positions available with no contact with clients as well as being a welcoming greeter. because school matters giveaway

THE BLESSING BOX WHICH KEEPS ON BLESSINGTammy shared this message, "My neighbor has received many people are thanking her for the food. The Blessing Box is truly a blessing. She tells them thank the lady next door and thank Jesus. She has received many notes and knocks on her door just saying thank you--this is sent from God. Need it so desperately. So many grandmothers are falling into my arms crying out for help thanking the Lord for this Blessing Box, the hygiene and the resources plus all important, the prayers." Thank you Judy Shuff, Sue Zerman and The Food Soldier for helping stock our Blessing Box at 3022 Howey Road. A mother of 5 visited the Blessing Box. We were able to have ICC deliver a box of food to the family. The next day Debby returned "to pay it forward." She is a super couponer; she then shopped and donated 20 tubes of toothpaste, and more! The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentation 3:22-23 god's hygiene new warehouse
CLEAN START BASKETSAfter Paul Sparks installed the new floor, he called GHHC that 2 men in the Embark program were being released. So Tammy got busy packing two huge Clean Start Basket. BECAUSE SCHOOL MATTERS
GOD'S HYGIENE HAS A WAREHOUSE!4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:4-6 NIV Back in 2011 when God told Tammy to open a Help Center, He also told her that He would send the people with an education and experience as well as that one day she would be helping so many people that she would have a warehouse building. On Friday, June 12, Tammy Jewell, Founder, and Terry Starr, Executive Director, signed the lease for such a building. Securing the warehouse has been a group project. For months Terry and others have been praying and searching in the Linden area for just the right building. Tammy and Diane Hendrickson, Vice President, were driving on on an errand on Oakland Park Avenue when Tammy said, "Turn into this parking lot. I have watched this being built and now this is empty." So Diane took a photo of the phone number and the large sign saying Urgent Care Center and forwarded to Terry. Terry then shared with GHHC Board member Robin Lorms who knows about real estate. They met with Pedro the owner and came up with a deal. It's a great location--just 5 minutes from Tammy's home in the Linden area, across the street from Family Dollar where she frequently shops, and next door to Donato's where police officers like to frequent plus they donated pizza for previous God's Hygiene events. We will have a warehouse with 2 new garage doors to easily unload and store hygiene products. On the right will be a door for clients to place an order from the Help Center. Upstairs will be several rooms for an office. Pedro is installing new windows, siding and cleaning the building up for us. Bob Apel with his architect background visited to give opinions on layout plan. He will also sketch out a plan for a mural instead of a sign on the large outside wall. Thank you to Nancy Gillette who looked over the contract and lease as an attorney. Tammy's brother, Ross Jewell, is an experienced construction worker who will help with the renovations. We get possession on July 1 and are planning our grand opening and backpack giveaway on August 1, 2020. Hurrah! Our God keeps his promises! Howey blessing boxThank you to wonderful volunteers who offered to build a Blessing Box for God's Hygiene. The Columbus Blessing Boxes Project even sent them building directions. It is located in the yard at 3022 Howey Road. Tammy began the Help Center in this neighbor's garage back in 2011. So they still keep her lawn mowed as repayment. This box has been such a blessing to the neighborhood. Mostly children are visiting so it is now stocked with peanut butter crackers, small boxes or raisins and some other snacks. Neighbors have been just as anxious to stock it with food as others have been getting much needed food. Thank you to Dick, Sue and Jim. Tammy watches who frequents the Blessing Box. One woman visited it 3 times in one day so Tammy followed her home. She is a grandmother trying to feed her preteen granddaughter with 6 jars of peanut butter. We then contacted our advisor Jim who was able to arrange delivery of a box of food. A young man with a pony tail and tattoos was standing beside the box. Tammy asked him, "Do you need help or hygiene?" He answered with tears in his eyes, "I just got out of jail. All I want is Our Daily Bread. Thank you. This is all I need." He declined the hygiene and also only took a can of Spaghetti-O's. A few days later we were able to also give him an used pair of shoes. We are so grateful to Our Daily Bread for mailing 300 copies of this devotional every quarter to GHHC. Thank you to Sue's sister, Judy Shuff, who owns 2 pizza shops around Ohio. Judy came on June 29 to stock up the Blessing Box plus delivered 10 pizzas for free to Tammy's neighbors in need of a meal. When the sister heard about our Because School Matters backpacks giveaway, she also offered to donate pizzas! Thank you so much! The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Tammy's wonderful sister-in-law, Julia Jewell, is teaching her grandchildren by example. She took them shopping at Morse Road Home Buys and they bought 30 pairs of beautiful dress shoes, socks and more which they delivered to God's Hygiene Help Center. Then she drove to the Georgesville Road Home Buys to purchase 30 more pairs at the amazing close out price. These shoes will be given out at our Grand Opening on August 1. When she heard that someone had emptied the Blessing Box overnight, they then went shopping for food to fill up the blessing box. Thank you Julia for being such a grand grandma and so generous with your in kind donations. These will be such a blessing to a number of families in need. Only God could have planned the timing. Two days later a neighbor girl knocked on Tammy's door. "It's my birthday and I am 11 years old." Tammy just asked her, "What size shoes do you wear?" So she and her sister were happy to receive new shoes and toothbrushes. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 1 Timothy 6:18 NIV
packing hygiene bags for 2 giveaways
| God's Hygiene believes in giving back especially during this pandemic. We ordered beautiful pink bags for hygiene giveaways. Terry asked Kim Emch of SON Ministries if they could also use hygiene at their Hilliard summer lunch program. God's Hygiene shopped for and donated hygiene to pack the 125 Hygiene Bags. Noah and Charlotte Gehlert helped their grandparents Rick and Sandy Bowen pack the bags as a service project. On June 24, 5 different volunteers delivered SUV's full of these bags to the different lunch locations. Linden Life Fellowship and God's Hygiene Help Center volunteers packed for our second giveaway in the South Linden community. It took 22 volunteers less than an hour to pack 125 bags filled with detergent, PineSol, dish soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, bar soap, toilet paper and resources card. Thanks to Colleen Caruso for recruiting LLF volunteers and to Julia Jewell for supervising the packing. Fifty bags will be given away by the church and 75 bags will be delivered by LLF for the Go, Lunch! program at Douglas Community Center. |

If you want an easy service project at your home computer, this is for you. Someone is needed to print a letter and tax exempt certificate monthly, mail or deliver to a store and coordinate the volunteers to pick up gift cards once a month. All documents are provided. We already have volunteers delivering letters and picking up cards at Graceland, Polaris, Hilliard and Sawmill Dublin Target stores. Please email us at godshygiene@gmail.org if you can help. Thanks! | This next story breaks our heart. Tammy's niece Takisha was named godmother for her cousin's baby boy, Frederick. Little 5 month old Frederick was born a twin. But his twin sister mysteriously drowned and died which is now under investigation. He was also born addicted to meth, heroin, and cocaine. Takisha already has two grown children she raised. The cousin asked her if she could watch Frederick. For how long? Forever! Takisha had never cared for an addicted baby before. So she prays to God for strength every day plus constantly has to comfort him. Takisha visited the welfare office and filed for emergency custody. She reached out to Tammy for assistance, and she referred her to the Baby Nook at St. Stephen's. GHHC had one $25 Target gift card to give her to help get needed baby items. Takisha said, "God is blessing me for blessing Frederick." We are also blessed to share where love wins! |

HYGIENE DRIVE THROUGH GIVEAWAYS
Thank you to Colleen Caruso for helping us organize a Hygiene Drive Through Giveaway at their church in a week's time. We planned to give away 100 bags of hygiene but ended up packing 150 bags and leaving extra hygiene with Pastor Taelor Gray. When shopping for hygiene, a Premier X pharmacist wanted to help and donated pocket tissues and 2 cases of kitchen trash bags to bag up the hygiene. We were amazed that 25 volunteers showed up to help pack, distribute and direct traffic. Items given away were toilet paper, soap, deodorant, shampoo, dishwashing soap, PineSol, laundry detergent, razors, toothpaste and toothbrush, adult diapers, baby diapers, baby wipes, and Q-tips. Church members also gave away children's books. A 9 year old boy was given $100 for his birthday today. His mom asked him what he wanted to buy. He replied, "I want to go shopping for God’s Hygiene Help Center." We were surprised when mom and son delivered bags of hygiene at our event and he was thrilled to receive his own Living Generously T-shirt. Community members were so happy to receive the much needed hygiene along with community resources, Our Daily Bread and scriptures bookmark. All the volunteers were happy to serve a purpose for an afternoon. We made and held signs and waved at cars driving by the church. GHHC provided face masks, plastic gloves, snacks, bottled water, and small prayer journal books. Tammy says, "Everything comes from God. It all belongs to God. He wants His children to have dignity and pride. He loves us all equally." |

FOSTER GRANDMOTHEREven during the pandemic, Tammy had to serve a special client. Eunice works as a home health aide. She is also the great grandmother and foster mother to 3 darling children ages 7. 4 and 3. Last month she was granted permanent custody. Eunice helps everybody and doesn't want anything for herself. But Tammy knows everyone needs hope, dignity and love. 10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. COVID-19 MASKS
GHHC HELPS H.A.R.P.
Becky Armstrong sent out the following letter this week:
It is so encouraging to me that during these challenging times, the missions that we support continue to do ministry, even as their budgets have suffered and they have had to be creative. It was so uplifting to hear Pastor Dave interview many of our core missions this week on Facebook Live at 9:00 pm. Included was a great interview with Mary Bates, Director of HARP. (Monday April 27) It is worth seeing, if you haven't already....and also want to include God's Hygiene interview with Terry Starr...wonderful job, Terry!! (Tuesday, April 28)
Mary indicated that the HARP warehouse is closed, but they continue to do ministry. She spends time each day on the phone with clients. She sets up appointments where clients can pick up needed things, and will share scripture and pray with people on a daily basis.
Mary suggested to me one way we can support the many folks in need in SE Ohio. A local Caldwell church is collecting diapers, and Mary would like to support their efforts.
I really like the idea of doing something tangible...and love that HARP is supporting efforts of a local church. Blessings, Becky
God's Hygiene's heart knew we had to share with our mission partner. We delivered over 400 diapers sizes 3 and 4 plus 54 packages of Baby Wipes on May 4. #wherelovewins

project STORAGE UNIT
Terry Starr signed a rental agreement for a storage unit located about 5 minutes from Tammy's home and main Help Center. Tammy is thrilled to be able to get some stock out of her home. We now have a working database program to keep track of stock and clients. Thank you that Lesley Tate has offered to be our Inventory Coordinator. GHHC was blessed that shelves were donated from several different people. We plan to be using the storage unit for a few months until we can move into a larger warehouse.
UPDATE FROM TERRY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Letter to Karen Kemp, Chair of the UALC Mission Committee:
Yes it is a very challenging time for everyone but especially hard on our neighbors living in poverty. While all of the help centers are closed, we are working to prepare for reopening. Tammy serves only people that she knows and leaves the hygiene products in a box on her driveway for them to pick up. Tammy has to be especially careful as she is an “at risk” person due to past health issues. Please pray for God’s protection for her! Tammy has a huge heart to serve while still being careful of her own health.
Yesterday I delivered over $1500 worth of hygiene and personal care items to the Columbus Dream Center which is serving their community on Saturdays with a Grocery Pick Up program. We hope to donate again in the coming weeks.
We are implementing a new inventory management system and client database which will be a huge help in keeping track of our products and clients. We are currently working on getting information into the system so that it is ready to go when we reopen.
We have created a business model and organizational structure which is in the implementation stage. We are looking for volunteer staff and helpers which are critical to our growth and success. More information and staff job descriptions are on our website.
We are looking for a storefront and warehouse for the help center that is in Tammy’s home. We need to move it out of her house as soon as possible.
Our prayer requests are for healing of our nation, for comfort and peace for all who are mourning during this difficult time, for the health and well-being for all of our communities and our nation, and for hearts to be opened to hear God’s voice and know that Jesus is the Savior and Lord. Please pray for Tammy and all of GHHC’s volunteers for God’s protection.
Please pray that God will bring the people to serve with us as we reopen our help centers and grow.
Please pray for God’s guidance in securing a storefront and warehouse in the near future.
Thank you and the UALC Mission Committee for your dedication and support of God’s Hygiene Help Center. We are truly working diligently to help “provide dignity and hope through hygiene to those in need with the compassion of Jesus!”
God bless,
Terry

coronavirus
Even while the pandemic was going on, Tammy was working behind the scenes. She developed her own recipe for creating hand sanitizer using rubbing alcohol, olive oil, 2 drops of Vitamin E to prevent dryness and sometimes even some fragrance. The Holy Spirit has been talking to her keeping her safe. When she needed to get more dog food, the Spirit said to put on gloves, hat and protect herself. Then when driving down the road, she could see little lights--her angels--all around her. Tammy said they look like when you see a flash from a camera. But she knew they were her angels.
Let me leave you with this hope-filled promise that we can embrace as we face the coronavirus pandemic: “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV).

| On the website for the Dream Center of Columbus: In response to the COVID-19 crisis in our city and world, we are ready to respond and offer HOPE during this time. Thank you for joining us in serving our city! Volunteers at The Dream Center are serving meals, groceries and more during the pandemic. Since God's Hygiene Help Center has been closed, we still wanted to help others during this crisis. So we contacted the Dream Center to see if they could use some hygiene. Tammy packed up $1500 worth of products including bleach, detergent, deodorant, razors, tampons, pads, small soaps, shampoos, conditioners and adult diapers. Terry Starr, our Executive Director, picked up 2 SUV loads of hygiene and personal care the items and delivered them to the Dream Center of Columbus. They were so appreciative and now they can provide some needed hygiene items to the community. We look forward to partnering with the Dream Center again. |
Looking for a way to help? People in need are requesting soap and diapers. God’s Hygiene has also partnered with the Columbus Dream Center. With help with our donations of Poise pads, razors, Our Daily Bread, and sample sizes of hygiene items, they plan to pack 800 Blessing Bags for seniors quarantined with Ohio Housing Authority. Please help us provide hope and dignity through hygiene with the compassion of Jesus. God’s Hygiene Help Center was able to give some much needed assistance to a single mom and her three children this past weekend. Christy has been employed by her parents at their family owned neighborhood restaurant/bar. As with so many others at this time, she has not been able to work, and is consequently facing serious financial hardship. Christy sends her heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation for the Kroger gift card given by GHHC, and the help it will provide for her and the kids during this difficult time.9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
| Thank you Carol Thacker of Krieger Ford for delivering beautiful blankets and thousands of detergent/bleach pods. We and our clients are so grateful. On April 24, Terry delivered to the Dream Center: 3000 detergent pods, 36 gallons of laundry detergent, and 100 large bars of soap. Thank you to Terry's friend Sue who delivered home made meals to Tammy several times. Of course, Tammy then shared some of those meals with other families in need. Orlando who works for Cheryl's Cookies had been missing days at work. He confessed to his supervisor that he had a drug problem, been fighting with his wife and about to become homeless. He wanted help. They checked him into rehab for 90 days. Yesterday was his first day out and was in desperate need for basic hygiene. The Lord nudged Tammy to also give him a Bible, Our Daily Bread, a devotional book and more. He started crying when he received the bag. He was ashamed where he is in his life. Tammy replied, "God's timing is perfect. You are right where God wants you." Orlando said with tears in his eyes, "That's exactly what I needed to hear. I don't want to divorce my wife. Thank you. |
Aide to H.A.R.P. for tornado recovery efforts
During this challenging time with the COVID-19 virus, areas of several southern states have been devastated by tornadoes. What a heartbreaking time for them!
H.A.R.P. Inc, led by Mary Bates, sends volunteers and donations to help in the recovery effort of devastated areas. She posted today that she is coordinating efforts for these southern states.
Since our help centers are closed and we have funds available, God's Hygiene wanted to help another of our UALC ministries. Mary Bates, Executive Director for HARP, is also involved with the NALC Disaster Response Team. God's Hygiene donated $500 to the NALC Disaster Response team for their recovery efforts. We hope that you will support us in our effort to reach out to help those in need in our southern states.
Update from NALC Disaster Response, April 14, 2020: There have been over 30 fatalities in the southern states. We will be working with churches to organize and equip local volunteers to respond. Emergency relief donations are being collected now. Contact me for a pick up at 740-509-1132 or disasterresponse@thenalc.org
As many communities are asked to stay at home, my heart breaks for families that now have nowhere to go — losing loved ones and homes in a matter of minutes.
Our hearts are with those families who have lost loved ones and we are coming alongside them to help families physically start to recover from the tornadoes while reminding them that God loves them and they are not forgotten. Please join me in praying for God’s peace and comfort to cover them.

thrivent choice
We are overwhelmed with gratitude and truly honored by receiving over $2500 from the Thrivent Choice program. Two different Thrivent Financial members read in our last newsletter/blog about this simple way to donate by designating their CHOICE dollars to be given to a nonprofit like God's Hygiene.
What a generous donation which will impact our ability to serve our local communities in need! We are looking for a storefront and warehouse to move the help center out of Tammy’s home in the near future. While our help centers are closed, we continue to look for ways to help those in need in our communities. God bless you and thank you for supporting us in serving those in need with the compassion of Jesus.
Congregations and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations receiving Choice Dollars grant funds from Thrivent Financial will know the names and addresses of members who recommended that they receive grant funds by directing Choice Dollars to them, but for legal reasons cannot provide the amount of Choice Dollars each member directed. Choice Dollars are not part of a member’s income or tax deductible. By directing Choice Dollars, they are recommending that Thrivent Financial donate an amount of its charitable funds to one or more nonprofit organizations. All funds distributed under the Thrivent Choice program are exclusively Thrivent's funds, and are never owned by members or paid on behalf of members.
Thank you Thrivent and thank you to our generous supporters!

HELP WITH NEEDS FOR BABIES | Thank you Amy Proctor of The Table Gathering for working alongside God’s Hygiene. Tammy had referred several mothers-to-be to The Great Giveaway scheduled for April 4. Since it could not happen yet, Amy and Diane met at the Worthington Vista warehouse to let a few families pick up needed baby items. They were so grateful. Afterwards Amy prayed for the families which was such a blessing. The Great Giveaway for other mothers-to-be has been postponed and will be rescheduled when the governor says the time is safe. But for now, they are continuing to take donations. So, while you are at home, clean out those closets and basements. Click on their website for a list of items they are taking and drop off locations. |
our local hero
Carla Huffman works in the deli at Cook’s IGA on Oakland Park. Carla works 10 hrs. a day, 6 days a week preparing the food for the deli for the local Linden community. A number of seniors would have no meals if not for her. IGA will even deliver the food for free if the senior is not able to leave their home. Note that Carla is holding homemade hand sanitizer made by Tammy when IGA sold out. Tammy believes in helping everyone in her community. Thanks Carla for being a Linden community hero. Tammy knew the family of the 14 year old girl shot in the head in north Columbus. The mother had worked once for Tammy in the past. So God's Hygiene contributed $25 to the family for the funeral expenses. Thank you Cheryl Hall who has offered to sew and donate masks to God's Hygiene Help Center. First she is creating masks for CHOICES. We appreciate your thoughtfulness. |

God’s invitation is wide open
No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.
Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can start with: “Dear God, I know that when I die I’m going to give an account of my life to you directly. I know I have ignored you. I confessed I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins toward you.
“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know that I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know that only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.
“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me from the sins and the habits that are messing up my life right now. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe that you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
If you prayed the prayer above, please write and tell us at godshygiene@gmail.com. We would like to give you a Bible and Our Daily Bread

There is only one classroom in which to learn:
1. The work of God.
2. The will of God.
3. The trustworthiness of God.
4. The presence of God.
The classroom is where I am now. This is the place appointed by God for my instruction and sanctification - even here:
1. where it seems God is doing nothing (He is, in fact, at work in unseen ways);
2. where His will seems obscure or frightening (He will surely give me peace at last);
3. where He isn't doing what I want Him to (He is doing something better - preparing bread for me when what I asked was in actual fact a stone; or perhaps, He is doing the very thing I prayed for, but in a way incomprehensible to me);
4. where He is most absent (yes, even there His promise holds: I will never leave you or forsake you. My faith must size that written word regardless of the enemy's taunt, "You've been abandoned.").”

| On Christmas night the home of Tammy's brother Ross Jewell caught on fire. Thankfully they were covered by insurance. All their belongings were taken and treated for smoke damage. Ross and his wife decided to donate all their jeans, T-shirts, and prom dresses to God's Hygiene Help Center. Fairy Godmother sighting at Linden-McKinley STEM Academy the afternoon of March 6. With prom season right around the corner, Tammy Jewell and God's Hygiene Help Center are busy collecting gently used prom dresses and accessories for some of our local teenagers who wouldn't otherwise be able attend this special night. If you would like to help in making a young girl's dream come true... Please contact Tammy Jewell Julia Elaine Jewell or Gods Hygiene Help Center directly. Linden McKinley STEM Academy is thrilled to open up a Wish Closet so that young ladies may choose a dress to wear to prom. God's Hygiene is also helping Windsor STEM Academy with their 5th grade project by donating sample sizes of shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. |
15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

On Saturday, March 14 while the city, state and country was under an emergency, Julia, Ross and Tammy delivered those jeans and shirts to young people living at Star House. Star House is a 24/7 social service agency, operating Central Ohio's only drop-in center for youth, ages 14-24, who are experiencing homelessness and their small children. We offer young people a safe respite from the streets, immediate access to basic needs and connections to stabilizing resources, such as housing, transportation, health care, employment, education, addiction services, legal aid, government benefits, ID cards and more. Thank you Ross and Julia for paying it forward. |

After a meeting with Pastor Dave, he was kind enough to let Diane into the Church at Mill Run to pick up our in kind donations and invitations to the The Great Giveaway. When Diane delivered the boxes to Tammy, she exclaimed, "We were completely out of razors. God knew and provided boxes of both men's and women's razors. Thank you Lord!" Our God is so good and always knows just what we need.
Eden Counseling Center sent wonderful thank you notes from their clients who attended our Glamour Time event on Valentine's Day. At the end of the program of course Tammy opened the Help Center and served people who needed hygiene.
I truly appreciate the tools and cleaning supplies for the house that I live in. This helps me live my life in an organized way and keep my depression under control. Thank you very much. Bonnie
Thanks for helping out we need the support and help build character and build balance. So thanks. J
Thank you for providing me with the hygiene products. This was definitely a blessing. We appreciate all that you do for us. Thanks again. Tyrene

During the time of the Coronavirus, God's Hygiene Help Center was closed. But of course that does not stop Tammy serving those in most dire need. A mom needed diapers and detergent and items were bagged up and set out on the porch. Tammy took extra precautions not to get close to anyone following the advice of Kathryn Farrar. |
a great giveaway story
On Tuesday a grandma who grew up as a preacher’s daughter and whose husband was an army chaplain, contacted me. She had been given my name and number from Diane at God’s Hygiene and wanted to know if I had any resources for her daughter Claire who had fled the state from an abusive husband, and had come back home with her 9 and 5 year old daughters. Claire was also pregnant and in the hospital because of her at risk pregnancy. Claire wasn’t able to bring anything for her baby and needed supplies. They had all spent over $2000 getting her home. They had no money for baby supplies. When I told her about the warehouse full of supplies for babies and moms in the Vista Worthington warehouse for The Great Giveaway, and told her that I would meet her the next day and that she could have anything she wanted, she started to cry. We talked about God and how good He is and that He loves and cares for us always.
The next day, we loaded up my empty minivan with a pack n play, high chair, bassinet, stroller, car seat, changing table, bouncy seat, toys and clothes for the baby. And wouldn’t you know it, there were also clothes there for the 5 year old! Ruthie and her husband were speechless. I was smiling a huge huge smile inside and out, because that is what God does with this ministry I have had for 9 years. He blesses us so abundantly. I drove the minivan to their house and unloaded it all in their garage. They were overwhelmed and overcome and so grateful. The text conversations have been really tender and loving and glorifying to God:
Grandma: God has definitely brought a precious blessing. My daughter couldn’t talk, she was crying uncontrollably with happiness. She said to please tell you that this is a precious answer to her many hours of prayer for her little family. She feels abundantly blessed. See you tomorrow, God bless you. Thank you.
Amy: I’m so grateful God has brought us together as well. Its an awesome answer to my prayers as well that God would use the present trials of the world to draw us closer to the One who cares and is in control of it all.
Grandma: Thank you for everything that you are doing. You are showing God’s love to others and blessing them.
Amy: It’s for His Glory
Grandma: Amen, Praise God. You are an angel
Grandma: Amy, I have to reach out to you to thank you for making my babygirl able to relax and rest worry free about her needs for baby James, Gail and Heidi are so happy with the back packs, stuffed animals, and games, God has blessed us so very much. Prayers have been answered from your faithful efforts. Thank you. Thank you for your precious prayers and all your efforts to help others. You are doing His will in all your time and efforts. I'm still trying to take in all of the blessings of today.
Amy: Honestly, the privilege is all mine. It was such a joy to meet you guys and to know that your trial has been made a little easier. Thank you so much for your sweet text. I am praying for you all.
Grandma: Thank you my sister in Christ.
Amy: Yes, He is my Savior and my strength. (I sent her the Nashville singers epic cell phone choir of “It is well with my soul”)
Grandma: I was in the habit of praying every morning, evening, and whenever needed…now I seem to spend more time in prayer than anything else. Isn’t God GREAT!!!
Amy: He loves it when we draw nearer to Him!
Grandma: He is all we truly need! With God nothing is impossible
Amy: Amen.
My daughter Clare, a journalist was with me for all of this and said “This is a story of how people right now might be just hanging on financially, but adding a big expense like this would wipe them out." Amy Proctor. https://www.thetablegatherings.com

Tammy shops for most of her stock right in her Linden community. We felt so blessed when the manager of Family Dollar on Oakland Park called her that he wanted to donate new winter coats and boots for preschoolers to God's Hygiene Help Center. Wow! Tammy prayed about where to take the donation. God led her to the daycare center down the street from her home at Howey and Weber Roads--Kids R Us. . Look at the happy faces of these children with the surprise gifts.
Last week an UALC Sunday school teacher donated 3 children's thermometers and alcohol wipes. Tammy delivered them to the same daycare center. Thank you for your thoughtfulness! Tammy took time to visit with the owner or the Center. She said there were 20 pairs of boots in sizes from newborn to age 4. It was like a gift from heaven. Tammy replied, "That is what I have been telling everyone! It is all from God!" Tammy also noticed there are pregnant women with no place to go just hanging out at the Center. So she will get their name, number and email to share about the Great Giveaway (of baby items for young mothers) planned by The Table Gathering.

Tammy also shops regularly at her neighborhood Cook's IGA store on Oakland Park. The owner, Mr. Cook, orders bleach and other items by the case for God's Hygiene Help Center. Mr. Cook told Tammy, "I am so proud of you sharing God with our community. I want to tell you to stop giving away so much. Customers don't shop in my store as much. But I want you to keep on giving and keep telling them about God!" |
A girlfriend picked up Tammy on her birthday to take her to First Watch for breakfast and to Kohl's to shop. When the server saw Tammy, she said, "You're that hygiene lady! I want to pay for your breakfast!" They received excellent service from their server and enjoyed eating wonderful breakfasts. After they left First Watch, Tammy asked her friend, "Did you leave her a good tip?" "No, you usually leave the tip." Tammy felt bad for the young server.
Two weeks later Tammy and Diane are driving past the same First Watch. The Holy Spirit nudged Tammy to stop and give the server a tip. The young woman had just had a baby and so appreciated the money. Also that same morning God's Hygiene had received information about the the 3rd Annual Great Giveaway on Saturday, April 4 organized by The Table Gathering at the Columbus Dream Center. So Tammy had Diane get her name, email and phone number so she could be invited to the free shopping event and lunch. Tammy was so grateful that she was faithful; she listened and obeyed God when He directed her to stop that day.

Word about God's Hygiene is spreading around to all organizations. Since we are still a very small nonprofit with no government or corporate support, we usually have to turn away large agencies. GHHC received this email:
Hello! I am inquiring about how to refer a family to you. I see a mother and her young children here in our outpatient clinic, they’ve been homeless for months but are about to move into a home and are in need of some cleaning and household supplies as well as hygiene items. Can you provide me some information on how to get them connected with your organization? Sincerely, Kelsey Bakaletz, MSW, LSW
Clinical Social Worker
Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics
Nationwide Children’s Hospital, LA, Suite 3D
We checked with Terry, our new Executive Director, and she replied that the request did fit our mission. So Kelsey and we have been emailing back and form. The concern is that we do not have the volunteers to deliver hygiene to clients. But Tammy will be happy to start building a Clean Start Basket for the mom and include stuffed animals for her children.
Kelsey replied, "So mom typically uses the bus system and I would ultimately cab her there if she needed. That is so wonderful of you to think of stuffed animals for the kids. Mom will really appreciate that special touch of kindness. I will let her know that we’ve discussed her referral."
It is all God who really made the referral.

God's Hygiene makes regular deliveries to Linden McKinley STEM Academy. This week we printed a sign for Tiffany, the school nurse, to post so students know they can get needed hygiene items like deodorant, soap and feminine products.
Windsor Elementary STEM Academy plans to have a hygiene project involving their 5th graders. GHHC will be glad to be able to provide sample sizes of shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
On Friday, February 14 we held Glamour-Time which was a successful event thanks to Thrivent Financial giving us an Action Team project gift card of $250. Wonderful GHHC volunteers Lesley Tate, Maura McCormick, Melissa Gray and Priscilla McCullough arrived early to the Douglas Community Center to help set up. Mary Kay consultants led by Director Cynthia Ruccia gave complimentary facials. God's Hygiene Help Center provided resource sheets to get community assistance in Central Ohio. Nearly 50 women were treated to a complimentary lunch of Chicken Salad Chick croissants, fresh veggies and fruit, and Cheryl's Cookies. They received community resources, facials, "new" purse, skin care products, and 2 beautiful fresh red roses. Everyone left feeling very blessed for a blessed Happy Valentine's Day treat.
Did you know if you are a member of Thrivent, you may donate your CHOICE dollars to a charity of your choice such as God's Hygiene. Also you may apply for 2 Thrivent Action Team projects a year to help support our ministry. Please email godshygiene@gmail.com

Thank you to the wonderful UALC member who donated more beautiful and super soft hats and scarves. Our police liaison Officer Alesia delivered them to the grateful women at the YMCA Shelter. Thank you for being such a blessing to others.
Anyone making an in-kind donation, could you please attach a note with a list of the items and value and your name so that we may email you a tax receipt. Thanks!
